The impact this game had was monumental.

Monument Valley is an indie puzzle game where the player leads the princess Ida through mazes of optical illusions and impossible objects while manipulating the world around her to reach various platforms.

What is Monument Valley?

Developed by Ustwo Games, Monument Valley was published on April 3, 2014.

At first glance, you may be confused be the title. Monument Valley? What does that mean? You may picture a valley with a statue or oblisk in the middle, but Monument Valley is so much more than that.

It’s an illusion. In a way, I guess the programmers and creative designers behind Monument Valley are sort of like magicians. The way that they seamlessly blend 3D + 2D graphics to create puzzling levels deserve a prize, which they got through a BAFTA Games Award for Mobile & Handheld and the Apple Design Award.

Monument Valley was so successful that Ustwo Games made Monument Valley 2, which was published on June 5, 2017. It features similar levels to the first game, but with new twists. The game design is similar, but the architecture feels different. However, it’s just as good as the first game, if not better.
